We have all faced it. We are just going along doing out work on Google Chrome when it happens… the internet goes down! Can be so many reasons: bad connectivity, sever reboot, maintenance or maybe you are trying to upload too many files to the cloud. The T-rex Game has been a favorite pixel game to play while you are waiting for your internet to reconnect or just want to see how far you can go in the game. I have actually found Ten ideas you can use the T-rex game in the classroom using a few chapters from Table Talk Math, Explore like a Pirate and Instant Relevance.
Ozobots, small little robots you can code a number of ways. Great for K-college and more. As many of you know, I love using Robot EDU, where you use robotics to challenge and engage students. Using STREAM (science, technology, reading, engineering, arts & mathematics). I have had students creating amazing projects with Ozobots over the last year. One of the greatest ways to generate creativity is to tell a story with an Ozobot is by creating a Skin for them. Skins are usually cut outs that students and teachers can attach to Ozobots to dress them up to look like animals, people or objects. Many classrooms love to use Makerspaces with Ozobots using 3D printers and 3Doodlrs (I know I have). Giving such a unique look to their Ozobots. However, as we know many schools do not have 3D printing, butttttt…. many schools have Chromebooks.
As January comes to a close, we start looking ahead towards that 14th day of February, Valentine’s Day. For years, students and teachers have made Valentine Cards from paper to stickers. In the last few years, thanks to various mobile technology, classrooms have started creating Valentine Cards with video and various mobile Apps. Why not? Using tech to create something from the heart let’s students discover their creativity and innovation in new ways. Here are three ways to bring the love of creation to your classroom this February.

Hard to believe that Pokémon Go has been around almost a week and of course like anything new with mobile technology. We are seeing the pros and cons with the game in both daily life and in education. I usually like to focus on the pros and the many ways that the way Pokémon Go is showing us the future of mobile learning. After work today, I found myself with a half an hour to myself, so I went on a Pokémon walk to find new Pokémon and maybe even a few PokéStops along the way. I came to a regular one where I encountered several high school students that had placed a Lure on the PokéStop. For those who don’t know, a Lure can be placed on a PokéStop for a half an hour. It then has pedals and hearts fly around it and it attracts all Pokémon in the area from common to rare. During the Lure time, many groups get together to not only capture Pokémon and also do Gym Battles, but also start discussing and sharing. Something that Pokémon Go has done is create a wonderful social gathering ability and a few of the students knew me from the area. They stopped by and asked if I wanted to join and to see if I could help them and that’s when something pretty amazing happened.
The other day I said I was going to start remodeling my office to be more inviting to students and staff alike. While I planned on doing this slowly over the next few weeks. As they say, time waits for no man and I ended up getting an earlier start due to an accident occurring during some regular checks, such as my entire shelf collapsing (don’t worry, I’m OK). So, after a few hours of moving, cataloging, archiving and a few other things here is the start to my remodel.
I apologize for the lack of posts this week or even standard tweets. This past weekend, I experienced a large case load of trying to complete my dissertation proposal to having that added on with my wife having a seizure on Sunday for the first time in almost five months. Then of course, I was busy at my regular job and working on some other projects that needed my attention. Usually my blog posts are daily, but with so much PD going into our new STEAM Art curriculum, I have fallen behind a bit outside of my social networks with Twitter and Instagram. I am excited to post about a new project we planning at my school using Adobe Slate for a School Newspaper. Something I have loved about Adobe Slate is how seamlessly you can incorporate images, text and now videos into a presentation that just pops to the viewer like a webpage.
